Claims Tips
Request a certified copy of your insurance contract from your agent or insurance adjuster. This document outlines your coverage, your responsibilities, mold provisions and/or limitations. When a dispute arises over coverage or policy language, reach out to an experienced and trusted public adjuster for interpretation and understanding.
Begin mitigation of the water damage, NOT restoration of damaged property. Only when you and your insurance company have reached an agreement to the volume and cost of damage, should the rebuilding and restoration work begin.
Document all damage with photos and video. If the removal of sections of dry wall or flooring become necessary prior to the insurance company’s claim adjuster survey, make sure that samples of the removed materials are saved.
Obtain your own estimates to measure the true cost for the repairing or replacement of your water damaged property. Attain a minimum of 3 estimates from properly qualified general contractors.
Demand a written explanation and reasons why in the event that your water damage claim has not been fully settled within 45 days of its filing.
