ABOUT GODFREY MITCHELL & ASSOC.

The public adjusters firm Godfrey Mitchell & Associates was launched in 1999 in response to the proprietor’s desire to address a need in the community. At the time, Mitchell was working as a claims adjuster with Cardinal Claims Service Insurance Company/Pilot Catastrophe and decided to make a switch from representing insurance companies and instead serve as an advocate for the public.

“I realized that many property owners had no idea about the steps they needed to follow when trying to collect compensation after a major loss caused by a fire, burglary or water damage,” said Godfrey Mitchell, the firm’s principal. “I started the firm in order to make a difference in that important area.”

Godfrey Mitchell is a world renown cricket player, and was inducted into the International Cricket hall of fame in 2011 for his position. He managed the Crusaders 2008 to 2014 won six consecutive championships 2014, 2015, Godfrey isone of the world masters in Jamaica.

Mitchell, who a public adjuster as a “highly specialized consumer advocate on property and casualty claims adjustments”. He explained that public adjusters’ loyalty is always to the consumer policy holders, never the insurance companies. An important distinction for consumers to note, he said, is that “Insurance carriers do not hire adjusters to represent consumers’ needs. The adjusters they send out work only for the insurance companies, not you the consumer.”

As a result of confusion on the part of many consumers reeling from multiple losses after a catastrophe, many important questions are never asked until it is too late. Mitchell’s aim is to meet with consumers before tragedy strikes so that they can make informed choices and plan ahead.

While it is advised to engage the services of a public adjuster, Mitchell cautions consumers to do extensive research to ensure that the public adjuster is competent.

“Avoid individuals who go from door to door after major disasters, unless you are aware that they are qualified,” Mitchell warns.

Generally, he said, if you own a house, condo, co-op or have a rental or commercial property, then you will need the services of a public adjuster. Mitchell boasts a solid base of satisfied clients who speak glowingly about his finesse, expertise and the integrity that he brings to the business.
